It’s almost Cyber Monday 2016 and you already know where you can find me: curled up in the back of a coffee shop here in Barcelona scoping out the best deals for products I actually need. Yes, it’s a tad disappointing to be in Europe during the Holiday season where the US really nails the scene – the cozy lights, the cheery music, the Christmas spirit in the air. Then you come to Europe, and it’s like any other time of the year.
Especially, Black Friday. While it does exist, it’s not like people are waking up at 4am to shop the door busters at their local Toys R Us. This is partly due to the fact that people who aren’t American aren’t celebrating Thanksgiving, which means that they still have to wake up Friday morning to go to work…leaving the stores wide open for someone like me.
So I went and did the tour around Plaza Catalunya: Bershka, Topman, Urban Outfitters, Pull & Bear, Kiehl’s – like, great stores that typically have cool things that I would like, but nope.
I. Bought. Nothing.
Which was fine, cuz we all know where the real deals are.
They’re on the 22 tabs we have open on our laptops for Cyber Monday. Let’s do this thing:
Vintage Camera Strap
For as much as I carry my DSLR around, you’d think I’d have at least customized the thing at least a little bit. I saw these camera straps in another blog and wondered why I’m over here carrying around my super-branded camera strap, when I could be stuntin’ with one of these.
EyeFi WiFi 16GB Memory Card
I wrote about buying this in my Favorites From September, and really, if you’re taking pictures on a WiFi-less DSLR and uploading them to your computer to then transfer to your phone, you could be saving so much time with one of these. Now, I can take photos, link my camera to my iPhone (no you don’t need a WiFi connection) and transfer all the photos in a few seconds.
USB Wall Charger
Disposable Cameras (2 pack)
There’s really no explanation necessary at this point. We use disposables more now than when they were actually popular back in the 90s. Of course you can use your phone camera in an instant, but there’s something special about that moment when you walk out of your camera store with a fresh pack of 27 photos from the past few months. Even as technology keeps on improving, I don’t think we’ll ever stop using these.
iPhone Camera Lenses
If you’re looking for a way to make your photos look different than everyone else’s, look into different, adjustable smartphone lenses. You attach them to your camera and immediately have a wide-angle or fish-eye lens that can take your photography game from 0 to 100 in the click of a pic.
iPhone Battery Case
$60 – $100 $30 – $50
I don’t know how I don’t have one of these yet. My entire job could be on my iPhone…if I knew how to charge my phone when I’m near a plug. These cases can be pretty pricey, and they do add some bulk to your phone, but when you’re Snapchatting, YouTubing, and emailing all day long, enough is enough. Dead phone no more.
International Travel Voltage Converter 4 USB Charging Ports
Again it’s almost silly that Jo and I haven’t invested in one of these. Picture this: you go abroad, and you have your iPhone, your camera batteries, your bluetooth earphones, and your laptop, and then you realize that you brought one converter. ONE CONVERTER! Now, are you going to spend your time out and about living your life (yes), or staying at home charging one-by-one (no)? Yep, that’s why we’re buying this.
Also, this is for American electronics abroad, although you could most likely find a similar product if your plugs look different.
What’d you buy yourself this Cyber Monday?
